Healing the Hood

In the neighborhood of South Lawndale, otherwise known as Little Village, the Little Village Community Development Corporation, Ceasefire, and other local organizations confront the issue of community violence through dialogue and communication about gang influence, intergenerational understanding, and the vibrancy of the area's youth.

Part of this effort is a one day event known as "Healing the Hood", held in Little Village on 28th Street from Avers to Drake, spanning the border that marks the battle-ground between the neighborhood's two opposing gangs and allowing, for one day, everyone to mingle freely without fear of violence.

Healing the Hood cannot be done in one day, but one day can spark something bigger than itself. Come see for yourself. Heal the Hood.

Use the navigation bar above to explore the messages and ideas behind Healing the Hood the event, healing the hood the way of life, and see how posters, discussions, artwork, and youth culture contribute to the culture of Little Village.

From Little Village:

“The message is that we need to heal the hood...by seeing all our youth as people that are significant to the community.”
