ABOUT

B-Ball on the Block and Block Arte

bball and block arte logosThe "B-Ball on the Block and Block Arte" program is designed to bring people out onto the streets and create healthy activities for kids and families.

Basketball games are held from 5 to 8 p.m. each week, with teams organized by local block groups as well as schools including Castellanos Middle School, 2524 S. Central Park, and Eli Whitney, 2815 S. Komensky.

The events take place on a different block each week and are hosted by local families. Chicago Police and local residents close off the blocks for the evening to ensure safety.

Art projects are also part of each evening as children and local artists work on panels that will become part of a large mural. Face painting, barbecuing and information booths focused on health and safety fill out the program.

The series is organized by the Little Village Community Development Corporation with support from Alderman Ricardo Muñoz, 10th District Police, Dr. Jorge Prieto Health Center, Little Village Chamber of Commerce, YMCA Street Intervention Program, CeaseFire, Second Federal Savings and LISC/Chicago.

LVCDC

LVCDC is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of residents of the Little Village community by fostering a physically safe and healthy environment in which to live and by championing opportunities for educational advancement and economic development.
